The Weeki Wachee River has been one of Floridas hidden gems since the late 50's. The river runs for about 8 miles and is fed by one of the largest freshwater springs in the world. The Weeki Wachee spring pumps out around 112 million gallons of crystal clear water a day that stays at a refreshing 72-74 degrees year round. Divers have been able to explore and chart over 6,000 feet of tunnels and passageways in the spring. One pit was recorded at over 400 feet deep, the deepest in the United States. There are actually 9 springs that make up the Weeki Wachee Spring system, the one that feeds the river being the largest.
The Weeki Wachee river is home to a vast array of wildlife including the threatened(formerly endangered) West Indian Manatee. These gentle giants weigh in at over a 1,000 pounds. Manatees, also known as "sea cows" due to their eating habits, graze up and down the river and are seen frequently by our kayak, canoe, and boat rental customers. The river is also home to many salt and freshwater fish, birds, turtles and much more. Every trip up the river holds a new opportunity to see something amazing.
